The International Education Finance Corporation (IEFC) loan programs (Stafford, PLUS, ISLP Private Loan, Foreign Medical Students, and CanHelp) are provided through IEFC, part of the Collegiate Funding Services family of related companies.  The Collegiate Funding Services Privacy Policy will apply to non-public, personal information obtained or received by IEFC when you apply for an education loan through one of the IEFC loan programs.  Once your application has moved to a lender or a lender’s servicer, the Privacy Policy of the lender will apply.

PRIVACY POLICY

CFS is a leading nationwide provider of products and services that address a full range of education finance and education debt management needs.  CFS originates, disburses, funds, and services federal and private student loans for both itself (through CFS related trusts and other special purpose entities) and other eligible lenders.  CFS, through its BabyMint program, enables customers to save towards a child’s college tuition or to repay student loans.  

• If your loan is beneficially owned by CFS or you are a former CFS customer.
• If you are a member of our BabyMint program.
• To information obtained or received by CFS when you apply for a loan using CFS.  Once your application has been approved for funding, the Privacy Policy of the lender holding your loan will apply.
• To information obtained or received by CFS when you apply for, and participate in, our BabyMint program.  For activity under the BabyMint credit card, the Privacy Policy of the financial institution issuing the card will apply.  For deposits to a 529 Plan under the BabyMint program, the Privacy Policy of the financial services companies affiliated with the 529 Plan will apply.

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard personal information about you.

• We only collect and use information about you that we believe is necessary to deliver superior customer service and as necessary, to administer our business and tell you about our programs, products, services, and other opportunities.
• We restrict access to personal information about you to those employees we believe need access to that information.  These employees are trained in CFS information security policies and procedures and in their obligations to protect information about you.  Employees who violate the CFS security policies will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
• Third parties, acting on our behalf to whom we disclose personal information about you, adhere to this Privacy Policy and to information security procedures. 
• We strive to maintain complete, up to date, and accurate customer information in our files.  You can access your account information (except when prohibited to do so by law) by calling us at 877-706-2979 (application and lending process) or 800-489-5005 (servicing) or 888-427-1099 (BabyMint).  If you find any information about you that is incorrect, we will correct it promptly.

• Do not disclose your account numbers, Educodes, passwords, PINs or other customer access numbers and devices that you use to view or discuss personal information about you to anyone you do not want to have access to your information. 
• Do not disclose personal information about yourself to people you do not know or that have not properly identified themselves. 
• Always use a secure browser and up-to-date virus detection software on your computer and do not open up e-mails from anyone you do not know.

The information we collect helps us to better understand your student loan needs and provide more personalized, efficient service to you.  Information we collect and may disclose about you may come from any one or more of the following sources:

• Information we receive directly from you on applications or other forms, including your name, street address, social security number, birth date, e-mail address, and telephone number;
• Information about your transactions with us or with others, which may include account balances, payment history, and account activity;
• Information we receive from consumer reporting agencies about you, which may include your credit report and other information relating to your creditworthiness and payment history;
• Information we receive about you from other sources which may include your school, servicer, lender, guarantor, affinity groups of which you may be a member, list vendors, and other related and unrelated third parties; and
• Information we receive about you when you visit CFS Web sites (information provided through online forms, site visitorship data, and online information collecting devices known as “cookies”).

We do not share information about you except as permitted by law.  We may disclose any of the above information that we collect with the following companies: 

In order to offer you convenient customer service or to complete a transaction where one of our related companies ends up holding a beneficial interest in your loan or services your loan, we share information on current and past customers within our family of CFS related companies.  In addition, we may share information about you within CFS to tell you about products and services offered by CFS that we believe you may find of interest.

In order to have your loan funded by a lender under one of our education finance programs, to establish your relationship with a 529 Plan, to issue a BabyMint credit card, to perform services for you, or to offer you other financial products or services we do not currently offer ourselves, we may also share information about you with unrelated third parties (those that are not owned, operated, or controlled by CFS).  Some examples include:

• Financial service providers, such as companies engaged in education lending, banking, credit cards, consumer finance, securities, guaranty, and insurance;
• 529 Plans that you choose under our BabyMint program;
• Non‑financial organizations, such as companies engaged in direct marketing and the selling of other financial products and services; and
• Others, such as non-profit organizations engaged in servicing and guaranteeing of student loans.

We are highly selective when choosing these providers and companies, and we give them only the information we believe they need to do their jobs.  They adhere to strict standards of security and confidentiality and cannot release or use any personal information about you for their own purposes.  Organizations that provide support services to CFS conform to our privacy standards and allow us to review audit reports for compliance with these standards.

If you do not wish us to share information about you, you can tell us not to by following the instructions below.  You have the option to limit these disclosures with the following exceptions:

• We may disclose information about you within our family of CFS related companies in order to complete a transaction where one of our related companies ends up holding a beneficial interest in your loan or services your loan, as well as information on your transactions with us in other situations.
• We may disclose information about you to third parties that perform services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.
• We may disclose information about you if it is necessary to process and/or service your student loan application or account.
• We may disclose information about you in other cases that are permitted by law such as when you authorize us to do so; when either a school, guaranty agency, or the Department of Education requests it in connection with your account; where a court orders us to do so; or if we suspect fraud or other criminal activity.

If you tell us to limit disclosure of information about you, please allow CFS approximately 45 days from our receipt of your correspondence or your call to have your selections become effective.  Your privacy selections will remain in effect until you request a change in writing.

• Your Account Number (You must list each account number you have with CFS.  If you have a spousal account, your opt-out applies for every person on the account.)

• Do not disclose personal information about me to unrelated third parties, except as permitted by law.
• Do not share personal information about me within the CFS family of related companies, except as permitted by law.

OTHER APPLICABLE LAWS:  The practices described above are in accordance with federal law.  We also follow privacy requirements under applicable state law to the extent these laws apply to us.  For example, for Vermont and California residents, we will not disclose non-public personal financial information about you to unrelated third parties, other than as permitted by law, unless you authorize us to make that disclosure.  Your authorization must be in writing or, if you agree, in electronic form.  If you wish to authorize us to disclose your non-public personal information to unrelated third parties, you may notify us at the address listed above.

ADDRESS/TELEPHONE CHANGE:  If you change your address, telephone number, or e-mail address, you must notify us immediately in writing or else your selection(s) may not be honored due to our systems requirements.
